Three engineering decisions

DFM is not a generic checklist. Geometry, material behavior and tool strategy must be reviewed together against the application, annual demand and customer approval plan.

Engineering gates 03–08

Project intake and quotation are master gates 01–02. These six engineering-to-supply gates continue the same lifecycle without creating a second numbering system.

MASTER GATE 03 / REQUIREMENT + CTQ BASELINE

Confirm application, CTQs, environment, volume, appearance and release evidence. Gate output: requirement and assumption register.

MASTER GATE 04 / DFM + RESIN

Resolve wall, draft, ribs, bosses, shrink, resin behavior and assembly interfaces. Gate output: closed DFM actions and resin basis.

MASTER GATE 05 / MOLD PLAN + RELEASE

Define parting, gate, cavity, cooling, venting, ejection, mold life and ownership. Gate output: reviewed mold specification.

MASTER GATE 06 / BUILD + TRIAL

Build, bench, sample and close trial defects through documented correction loops. Gate output: traceable samples and issue closure.

MASTER GATE 07 / QUALIFY + PRODUCTION RELEASE

Establish a repeatable setup and process window, then approve fit, appearance, function and critical dimensions. Gate output: approved part and released process basis.

MASTER GATE 08 / REPEAT SUPPLY + LIFECYCLE

Control material, startup, in-process checks, traceability, packing, mold condition and engineering changes. Gate output: lot release and controlled lifecycle records.
